Hygiene Outreach for High School Students in Kwara, Nigeria
Tucked under the comfort of our little world, it’s easy for us to forget that many people in other parts of the globe are navigating complexities in things that affirm simple human dignity. What we think of as entitlements are luxuries to many others worldwide because of their limited access to information and resources. A little can go a long way to enlighten and help people equally created in God’s likeness, especially the younger generation, who can, in turn, build on what they received.
Executing the first phase of four projects stipulated in an award from After God’s Heart, Shepherd for Health, Environment, Advocacy, and Development (SHEAD) Center, Nigeria, held informal sessions to educate high school students between ages nine to sixteen in Kwara State, Nigeria. In addition to breaking the stigma and misconceptions attached to this part of adulting, SHEAD provided practical demonstrations of hygiene practices and distributed hygiene kits to the students. The SHEAD organization stated that this effort aligns with their annual “World Menstrual Hygiene Day.”

The program included a health talk, an interactive session, a myth-busting session, a practical step-by-step demonstration, and the distribution of hygiene packs to each student. According to the SHEAD organization, the project was a significant step towards empowering young girls with knowledge while providing them with resources for better health.
